ABOUT YOGA

Yoga is a traditional discipline involving many techniques including body, breath and voice work, diet, meditation, study and reflection. In modern life it can be used:

• To appreciate the intimate relationship between our body, breath and mind.

• To help cultivate a quality of attention, clarity and thus skilful action.

• As a therapy to help our health needs.

ABOUT aYs

The Association for Yoga Studies (aYs) is an organisation inspired by the yoga teachings of T Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar, as received from both Krishnamacharya and Desikachar, and through their students. These teachings and techniques are often known as “viniyoga”.

AYs offers:

•     1 to 1 teaching and therapy

•     Yoga classes

•     Convention or Sanga in alternate years

•     A Journal

•     Website Discussion Forums

If you’d like to know more about aYs, our main aYs website is the best place to look.  There’s a wee “taster” on the “Our Tradition” page on this site.

ABOUT aYs SCOTLAND

At present there are only a few aYs teachers in Scotland -- one in Dundee and two in Edinburgh.  The “About Us” page will tell you more.  We offer group classes, one to one tuition, and the occasional seminar.

Generally speaking the group classes are what most poeple think of as Yoga -- asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing practices), with some meditation, but we also offer tuition in yoga philosophy and vedic chanting.

One to one tuition can be one or all of the above.  Have a look at the “Tuition” page, or contact us for more information.
